This year, PGI presents the theme “Viewed from the Edge” which reconsiders the idea of marginal place, reframing it as a space of emotional, domestic, social and political experience.

In the works of women artists Tokuko Ushioda and Asako Narahashi, the home is a dynamic marginal space, and inter-generational dialogue is made possible through a long-forgotten archive. Both examples highlight the transcending profundity of a rediscovered archive of negatives.

Osamu James Nakagawa and Kikuji Kawada powerfully depict landscapes that engage with themes ofpower, humanity, and memory.

Yasuhiro Ishimoto’s celebrated Chicago series,
prominently featured at Le Bal in 2024, seamlessly merges Japanese aesthetics with
American urban experience.
